Chief Scientific Officer and Technical Fellow at Microsoft. PhD from Stanford (1990, under Daphne Koller). Has led Microsoft Research in various capacities since 1993. Pioneer in AI reasoning under uncertainty, with foundational work on Bayesian inference in clinical decision systems. President of AAAI (2007). Member of US National Academies of Engineering, Science, and Medicine. Named AI’s Person of the Year (2024) by TIME.
