SenseTime
corporateSenseTime (HKG: 0020) is a major Chinese AI company and computer vision pioneer, publicly traded on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange since December 2021. It was co-founded in October 2014 by Tang Xiaoou, Xu Li, Wang Xiaogang, and Lin Dahua. The tragic passing of Tang Xiaoou in December 2023 was a profound loss for Chinese AI — he was widely regarded as one of the field's most influential figures, having mentored a generation of researchers at CUHK and his Multimedia Lab.
SenseTime develops the SenseNova large model family (progressing from 2.0 through 5.5) and the SenseCore supercomputing infrastructure, which provides GPU clusters used by multiple institutions including the Shanghai AI Laboratory. The company co-develops InternLM and OpenGVLab with Shanghai AI Lab. SenseTime's foundational CV research includes the widely-cited Deformable DETR, MMDetection, and recent work in spatial intelligence and autonomous driving.
The company was placed on the US Entity List in 2019, and has faced financial challenges with its stock declining significantly from its IPO price. SenseTime has restructured to focus on its "1+1+X" strategy: SenseCore infrastructure + SenseNova models + vertical applications in smart city, autonomous driving, and healthcare.
