academicThe Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) is the world's first graduate university dedicated entirely to AI, established in 2019 by Abu Dhabi government decree. Led by President Eric Xing (92K citations, formerly Carnegie Mellon). 84 faculty, 200+ researchers in Masdar City.
MBZUAI is the academic partner in the JAIS consortium (with G42/Inception and Cerebras), producing the world's leading Arabic LLM: JAIS 13B (2023, 395B tokens), JAIS 30B (1.63T tokens), JAIS 70B (adapted from Llama 2), and JAIS 2 (Dec 2025, 8B/70B, 2.6T tokens, trained on Cerebras CS-2). Through the Institute of Foundation Models (IFM) and LLM360, MBZUAI also produces K2-V2 (70B, strongest fully open model in its class).
JAIS models are published under the inceptionai HuggingFace org (G42 subsidiary). The consortium includes academic partners from Carnegie Mellon, Ecole Polytechnique, NYU Abu Dhabi, and Edinburgh.
