ETH Zürich
academicETH Zürich is one of the two pillars (with EPFL) of the Swiss National AI Institute. This entry deliberately excludes that SNAI work: the Apertus models, the INCLUDE multilingual benchmark, and the SNAI robot-learning forks are tracked under Swiss AI, and SNAI leads (Jaggi, Schlag, Hoefler's Apertus-branded systems work) live there. What remains here is ETH's independent, non-SNAI research — primarily LLM/agent security, verified code and math evaluation, LM theory, post-training, and robot learning.
Flagship work: Florian Tramèr's SPY Lab defined the LLM-security agenda — Stealing Part of a Production Language Model (ICML 2024 Best Paper), AgentDojo (the de-facto prompt-injection benchmark), CaMeL, and large-scale LLM deanonymization. Martin Vechev's SRI Lab ships the LMQL query language, MathArena, and the Open Proof Corpus; Andreas Krause's LAS group drives LLM post-training (SDPO); and Marco Hutter's Robotic Systems Lab produces the rsl_rl library and its Science Robotics legged-locomotion line.
Commercialization runs deep: Vechev is a serial founder (DeepCode→Snyk, LatticeFlow, LogicStar AI), his students' Invariant Labs was acquired by Snyk (2025), and Hutter co-founded ANYbotics and leads the Zurich office of the Robotics and AI Institute.
